After spending hundreds, if not thousands, on your new love doll, it’s important to maintain them correctly. This will make the experience better, but also extend the lifespan of your plastic partner. Today, we’ll cover three areas of maintaining your sex doll: what to avoid, how to address common issues, and how to store your doll.
What to Avoid
1. Avoid long-term placement in difficult poses
When your doll comes, the neutral position will be lying down with the limbs extended. Leaving your doll in any particular pose other than this neutral position has the potential to cause deformation and damage the materials. Your doll has a skeleton inside, but the joints can become loose, as well as the skin material cracking or tearing.
After use, make sure to return the doll back into the neutral position. A bit later we’ll get more into how to properly store your doll.
2. Do not use sharp objects to scratch or apply pressure to the doll, as this will damage the skin.
3. Avoid leaving your doll in direct sunlight for extended periods to prevent deterioration. The materials used to make your doll have oil suspended inside, and direct sunlight can cause this to essentially evaporate and leave your doll prone to damage.
4. Use caution with clothes, both yours and the doll’s clothing. You’ll want to avoid any materials that aren’t color-fast (meaning the pigment won’t run or bleed) because this can cause stains.
Addressing Issues
1. What if your doll is dirty? How do you clean them?
· Use cool or warm water along with a specific doll cleanser (in a pinch, free and clear laundry detergent or a gentle body wash can be used) to wipe the doll down. Don’t use alcohol or boiling water, since these will damage the skin coating.
· After washing, allow the doll to dry – you can use a soft towel to assist you, but don’t use a blow dryer. For internal drying, aquarium pumps can help to remove any excess moisture.
· Once the doll is clean and dry, you’ll then need to powder the skin with talcum or baby powder. When doing this, make sure to pat the powder in; don’t rub it in, just sweep off any excess with a soft makeup brush.
2. What about cracks?
Depending on the size of the crack, you may be able to repair them at home, but if it’s large, it’s best to contact the seller or manufacturer.
· For small cracks, you’ll want to clean and dry the area, then gently move the material back into the original position, and apply a layer of glue over the crack. You’ll then want to allow 30 minutes (but up to 24 hours) for the glue to harden and fully set.
· What we’re doing here with the glue is fuse the damaged areas back together, and this is harmless to the doll’s body. As long as you’ve followed the steps, you shouldn’t notice the crack after fixing it, and the doll will totally function as normal.
· If you apply the glue, but realize the edges weren’t properly aligned, quickly wipe it away with a damp towel, and try again. If the edges aren’t properly fused, this can make the issue worse than it originally started. If in doubt, reach out to the seller, and they can advise you of the best way to go about it depending on the specifics of the issue.
3. What if your doll gets stained?
Obviously, it’s best to avoid stains in the first place. The easiest way to do this is to ensure the all fabrics are colorfast – there are dye-catching dryer sheets you can use to ensure any excess dye is removed prior to dressing your partner. It’s also suggested to go for lighter colors, like white and light pink. However, if you’re wanting a different look and a stain happens, you may be able to remove them.
· You’ll need a decolorizing cream for TPE, as this can remove localized stains over time, and it’s harmless to humans. Cover the stain with an even layer of the cream, and repeat every 4 hours as needed, until the stain lifts.
· However, keep in mind that decolorizing cream has limitations – for severe stains, they may not fully be removed, but they should be less noticeable. Generally speaking, small stains typically fade within 24 hours, while severe stains can take 3-4 days.
Storing Your Doll
The best storage is in a cool, dry, dark environment. Avoid hard surfaces, as these can cause flat spots. Ideally, the space should be firm (but not hard), flat, and large enough to ensure no joints are bent.
For short term storage, foam can be a great solution – such as a memory foam mattress. However, you’ll want to make sure to change the doll’s position regularly (at least once a day) to prevent any flattening.
For long-term storage, it’s best to remove the head and store it in a separate box. If the doll is built to stand (there will be bolts in the feet), it can be leaned up against a soft, padded wall, but it can cause wear on the knee joints. Placing the doll back in their original box is the best option.
